Celebrating My First Website Sale!
Share
My first website sale* happened last night! Just coming in under the wire within the first week of launch. I'm very excited about this milestone and looking forward to the next one. I am enjoying every step of this journey, what it's teaching me about me and what I'm discovering about how I want to spend my energy at this point in my life. I'm so grateful for all of you following along.
I want to talk a little about the piece that sold.
"Dodging Through Galaxies" was my first attempt at a more grayscale palette for my neurographic style. My previous pieces in this style use bright and colorful backgrounds as a starting point. I wanted to challenge myself to keep things more black and white, with a limited selection of accent colors. I had a lot of fun with the concept and enjoyed the outcome.
As for the title of the piece, I have my banker, of all people, to thank for the inspiration there. I was researching business banking options, and she wanted to see some of my work. This was one of the few she saw and she mentioned that it looked liked dodgeball, but in space. We had fun playing around with this for different title ideas, and I landed on "Dodging Through Galaxies" for it later.
Writing this reminds me that I had wanted to do an inverse of this piece, starting with a dark background. I did a piece as a gift for my brother in an attempt at that, but it trended more purple/dark blue than black. I'll have to give that a try again soon.
*Yes, I did need to qualify this as my first sale through the website. My generous family and friends have wanted to support my art endeavors when this website was just a half-formed idea floating around in my brain. I appreciate their embrace of this side of me, encouraging me to consider it more than a hobby and something worthy of sharing more broadly.
